I'm very happy to announce you the release of XOOPSERVER 4

The 08.08.2008 marked the end of life for PHP 4, which has been in stable release since May, 2000. With eight years of legacy code out there, it is likely that there are going to be a fairly large number of systems that will not migrate to PHP 5 in the near future, and a reasonable proportion of those that will not make the migration at all. And that is also why I'm sure you will enjoy the great work done by developers with Legacy system!

"A legacy system is an old computer system or application program that continues to be used because the user (typically an organization) does not want to replace or redesign it."

Legacy systems are considered to be potentially problematic by many software engineers (for example, see Bisbal et al., 1999) for several reasons. Legacy systems often run on obsolete (and usually slow) hardware, and sometimes spare parts for such computers become increasingly difficult to obtain. These systems are often hard to maintain, improve, and expand because there is a general lack of understanding of the system. The designers of the system may have left the organization, leaving no one left to explain how it works. Such a lack of understanding can be exacerbated by inadequate documentation or manuals getting lost over the years. Integration with newer systems may also be difficult because new software may use completely different technologies.

We are about to start a new adventure in the open source environment of XOOPS Cube's Web Application Platform.

Xoopserver is a single project based on open source technology used to develop most of popular web applications alike XOOPS Cube.

For some of us (developers and designers), XOOPS Cube is almost a way of life, not as much as a creed nor as little as a hobby. It's a quest of true freedom. It's about real passion!

Even some others would rather say 'an obsession'... it's not fundamentally a negative meaning. Because It's also a very friendly and heterogeneous bunch of people with different but complementary competences arguing together under several community sites and personal blogs, trying to build a voice without losing in the way our "joie de vivre"! ^^
